Dromineer

The lakeside village is renowned for its water sports. It hosts many sailing events during the summer months. Boat trips on the lake are available daily. The harbours also have a flourishing boat club, marine and sailing school. Dromineer is well known for its fishing and many anglers come in May for the May-Fly fishing. The Boat club and Yacht club were founded in 1837 making it the third oldest in the world. The ruins of the castle dominate the harbour. Built by the O’Kennedys in the early 16th C it was given to the Earl of Ormonde in 1556.
Dromineer is located on the eastern shores of Lough Derg about 8 kms from Nenagh.

Sli Eala Walk

Sli Eala (swan way in Irish) links the istoric lakeside village of Dromineer to the picturesque bridge and weir at Ballyartella. Set in the heart of Tipperary lakeside, the route passes through an area of natural beauty with history and legend at every turn. The walk for part of its length follows the meandering Nenagh River. This river is home to many stately mute swans, which give the walk its name.

Lough Derg Drive

Ballycommon is on the Lough Derg Drive. When you drive on the Lough Derg Route, you will pass some scenic spots, the lakeside villages of Dromineer, Garrykenedy, Ballina/Killaloe, Mountshannon, Portumna, and Terryglass and back to Ballycommon. One of the most pleasurable areas to visit in the Shannon Region is Lough Derg.
This is one of Ireland’s largest lakes, (32,000 acres) and is aptly named ‘Ireland’s Pleasure Lake’.

Hanley’s Woollen Mills

Hanley’s Woollen Mills and visitor centre at Ballyartella, on the banks off the Nenagh River. Established since 1893. At the visitor centre/shop, you can learn about the intricate weaving processes from the video production while relaxing in the coffee shop. The video outlines the complete weaving process in operation. Website

The local town of Nenagh has many notable buildings, Nenagh Castle ,Town Hall, Courthouse, Governors House, Nenagh and District Heritage Centre, Saint Marys Roman Catholic Church and Church of Ireland both noted for their stained glass windows from the fanous Harry Clarke Studio.
